We found the sound clean and inoffensive, and surprisingly it was on par with or better than what we tested in the neckband wireless earbuds for the same price. Redmi Earbuds S gives users the benefits of true wireless connectivity without any of the sacrifices that usually come with the design.

We’re used to hearing some anomalies in audio reproduction when using exceptionally affordable audio products, but the Redmi Earbuds S didn’t have any of the rough edges or tuning flaws that we’d typically hear on affordable wireless earbuds. Upon hearing about Big Wild’s Aftergold, we were impressed by how comfortable and clean the sound was.

Although we didn’t hear any brilliance or emotionally charged driving down this path, we found the performance to be capable of far beyond what we had expected, given the sub-elements. There’s just enough width and depth to the sound to make it enjoyable, with some noticeable feel to the direction of the sound, and hints of subtle detail reveal themselves.

Frequency responses were measured in this lively and optimistic track, as lows and highs got a boost. The mid-range wasn’t extraordinarily boring, with Tove Styrke’s high-pitched vocals sounding good. The acoustic signature is suitable for more popular genres, and looks good even with the most intense tracks like Deadmau5’s Raise Your Weapon, thanks to the calculated and gentle punch in the bass.

Redmi Earbuds S is acceptable for voice calls; We didn’t encounter any major connection quality issues in indoor environments, and the connection was generally stable across use cases as well. The low latency mode slightly improved our experience when playing at the cost of a slight drop in sound quality, although we still saw a slight delay in audio that could mean the difference between winning or losing in fast-paced games. Environmental noise cancellation should aid use in noisy outdoor environments, but we were not able to effectively test this feature.

Verdict

Even though we’ve heard a lot of true wireless earbuds , we’ve always been skeptical whether it can sound good and work just fine. Xiaomi has shown that it is possible to sell good audio products at surprisingly low prices, first with Mi Dual-Driver Earphones and now with Redmi Earbuds S. These headphones are surprisingly good for the price and definitely the best true wireless pair of earbuds.

With a combination of good design, helpful specs and clean, fun sound, the Redmi Earbuds S pretty much gets everything right given its price. It provides a comprehensive experience that costs several options that cost twice as much. If you are shopping for a new pair of wireless earbuds at a very reasonable price, this should definitely be on your list.
