Aluminum
These are the two most common materials used for tripod legs. Aluminum stands are cheaper, but weigh more. It’s ideal if you want the most stability for your money. Leg sections
The legs of a tripod may have three, four, or five sections. A greater number of sections means that the tripod is shorter and more portable when folded, but it usually takes a little longer to set up and may not be completely stable.

Leg locks
These come in two main types: twisted locks and face locks. Twisted locks take up less space and are generally faster to use – you can often open all of the leg sections in one movement when setting up the tripod. Operating all three legs will allow you to shoot from a much lower angle.

Types of feet
Rubber feet are good on most surfaces but better on carpets and wood floors, where you don’t want to cause harm. Metal spikes are good for soft and uneven ground. Some tripods have rubber feet, which can be mounted back to reveal spikes.
