Meet Seagate’s Backup Plus Slim, another portable hard drive using the tried and true ST2000LM007, a released hard drive. Backup Plus Slim (STHN1000402) is available in 1 TB and 2 TB models in light blue, black or brushed aluminum.
One has to wonder why Seagate launched a new version of Backup Plus. It uses the same three-year-old drive as its predecessor, and it doesn’t bring much to the table, especially since it carries a much higher price tag – although you do get software bundled in the form of Mylio Create and Adobe CC.
There’s nothing particularly noteworthy about Backup Plus Slim – its design is utilitarian and definitely doesn’t try to win any awards. Seagate has opted for a plastic chassis with a thin metal cover on top. Other than the Seagate logo and the white status light, there’s hardly anything that catches the eye here.
This product uses the old ST2000LM007 drive, as mentioned, a 1TB 2-layer disk spinning at 5400rpm with a 128MB cache. Surprisingly, this drive costs more on its own than if it was packaged as a Backup Plus Slim. Unbelievable, but real.
